UGoEigo.com English Sounds Lesson 8: L & R
Welcome to the eighth UGoEigo phonetics video podcast.
In this lesson we will study two new English sounds.
Listen to me say each word and watch my mouth.
Then say the word along with me.
Move your mouth the same way as mine.
This lesson we will compare the ‘L’ and ‘R’ sounds.
These two sounds are very difficult for many people.
There are very many words that sound almost the same, one using ‘L’ and one using ‘R’.
First let’s try the ‘L’ sound.
Watch and say it with me…
Next let’s try the ‘R’ sound.
Watch and say it with me…
What is different?
Where you put your tongue is different.
To make the ‘L’ sound, touch your tongue to the roof of your mouth, behind your teeth…
…and use your voice.
To make the ‘R’ sound, keep your tongue in the back of your mouth…
…and use your voice.
See the difference?
Touch your teeth for ‘L’, keep your tongue back for ‘R’.
Use your voice for both.
Watch and say with me…
