I am planning a new website feature called “Please say it for me.” Is there a word or phrase that is hard for you to say? If so, send it to me. I will collect them and put video on the website for you (and everyone else). This will not be a podcast, only on the website (to make it simple for me). Also it will be my choice which phrases to post. So please email me your problem phrases!

One of the most famous audio language courses is the Pimsleur series. There are many different courses for learning many different languages. Most courses teach English speakers another language. I have used the Pimsleur lessons to learn Japanese, for example. But there are also courses for learning English as a Second Language. These lessons are very good practice for listening, speaking and responding to questions. If you listen closely to the voices on the tape you can also work on your pronunciation.
You can find them on Amazon.com or in Apple’s iTunes using the form below.

Sounds of English is a very useful website for learning how to pronounce English. It has many simple pictures showing where to put your tongue and how to shape your lips. Short audio and video clips demonstrate the sounds to you. There is also a good article on how to use stress and intonation.

What web browser do you use? If you use Firefox there are many very useful add-ons. One that will help you pronounce words is the Pronounce Add-On. It works on Windows and Mac OSX. If you double-click on a word on a web page and then click the speaker icon you will hear the word. Click on the picture for an example. I double-clicked on the word “lesson”. Then I clicked on the speaker icon. Then my computer said the word “lesson”. The add-on may not know some words, but perhaps it will be useful to you…

Phonetics: The Sounds of Spoken Language is a website by the University of Iowa in the United States. It shows how to pronounce English, Spanish and German words. If my video lessons are useful to you, this site might also help you learn English phonics. It uses flash animation to show you how to move your mouth for each sound. It uses technical words, so it may be a little hard for some people. But there are lots of pictures, sounds and animations to help you understand.

Hello and welcome to UGoEigo.com’s website. I hope I can help improve your English with my podcasts and other lessons. My goal is to provide you with three podcast a week, along with other content. First I will be making a series of video podcasts to teach basic English pronunciation. These videos will feature close-ups of my mouth as I say the words and sounds being taught. You should try to say the words with me, mimicking my mouth movements. The video podcasts will be in two formats, one for the Apple iPod (and computers using Quicktime) and the Sony PSP. Please let me know if they are helpful.
