Functional Phrases 1: Greetings

April 22nd, 2006

Functional Phrases 1“Functional Phrases” is a new UGoEigo ESL podcast. Each lesson will teach you to pronounce a few useful phrases in English. Like in the “English Sounds” lessons, watch my mouth and say the words with me. These lessons will be shorter and hopefully more frequent…

This lesson is about greetings. The phrases used are:

  • “Good morning.” - Good morning.
  • “Good afternoon.” - Good afternoon.
  • “Good evening.” - Good evening.
  • “Hello, how are you?” - Hello, how are you?
  • “Hi, how are you doing?” - Hi, how are you doing?
  • “Hi there! How’s it going?” - Hi there! How’s it going? (casual)
  • “Hey! What’s up?” - Hey! What’s up? (casual)

The last two are casual greetings. Use them with good friends. If you need translation help, use the “Choose your language” flags at the top of this page.
